Special events near Berlin Mitte include the annual International Green Week held in January. Started in 1926, the festival exhibits agriculture, food and horticulture topics. Manufacturers and producers come from all over the world displaying everything from foods to luxury items. The festivity also features exhibits presented by forestry and landscaping organizations. Visitors enjoy a varied selection of beverages and foods while viewing agricultural seeds, equipment and gardening supplies. The event also features pets, hunting, fishing, and the latest household appliances.

For two weeks every February, the city hosts the annual Berlinale, also known as the International Film Festival. The event attracts actors, directors and other members of the film industry from around the world. Hundreds of thousands of citizens also attend the event. Of the hundreds of films featured during the event, nominated full-length films have the chance of winning the best picture award known as the Golden Bear. Nominated short films and actors hope to win the Silver Bear award.

Every year at the end of May, one special event near Berlin Mitte includes the Carnival of Cultures. Millions of visitors join local residents in celebration of the city's diverse community. The four-day festivity features an elaborate parade consisting of thousands of participants proceeding through the streets in native costumes on colorful floats playing traditional music. People from over five-dozen countries come together and share beverages and food. The festival also hosts a number of live entertainment concerts.

The Taste Festival is another one of the special events near Berlin Mitte. The 10-day extravaganza occurring during the first week of June attracts international artists, designers and chefs along with food curators. Food professionals and food lovers flock to the event for the chance to learn about cultural foods, food ingredients and experimentation. The festivities include food events, markets and presentations in addition to parties. Exhibits feature culinary workshops, a selection of products and a retail bazaar.

Berlin became renowned for being one of the premiere locations for electronic music. Clubs remain open all night long with no restriction on alcoholic beverages. For four days every November, the community hosts the Berlin Music Days festival. During this time, clubs throughout the city hold a number of special events that attract tens of thousands of visitors from around the world. On the final day of the festival, closing ceremonies at the old airport include live entertainment from a variety of popular acts. Loco Dice, Ricardo Villalobos and Magda are some of the festival's past entertainers.
